Brief historical reference
The immediate ancestor of the boxer is the bullenbeisser brabantino. The breeding of the bullenbeisser was in the past in the hands of the hunters who used him for hunting. His task was to grasp and immobilize the game that was pursued by the dogs from following, until the hunter who fell the prey arrived. To carry out this task, the dog had to have an opening of the jaws as wide as possible and a strong dentature to grasp well and hold the prey. Every bullenbeisser who had these characteristics was better suited to his task and for this reason they were used in reproduction that initially considered only the activity and the use carried out. Thus also a selection of breed was practiced that brought to a dog from the broad nose and the nose turned to the up.
General
The boxer is a medium-sized dog, smooth hair, and with a compact and square construction and a possessing bone. The muscles are dry, well developed, strong and plastically detected. The movements are lively, full of strength and nobility. The boxer must not look heavy, neither ungraved, nor free of substance or light.
Important provisions
a) Relationship between the length of the trunk and the height of the Garrese: the construction is square, that is the lines that delimit it, the horizontal one of the back and the vertical ones, of which one that touches the tip of the shoulder and one the tip of the buttock, form a square.
b) Relationship between the depth of the chest and the height of the Garrese: the chest descends to the elbows. The depth of the chest is equal to half the height of the Garrese.
c) Relationship between the length of the nasal tube and the length of the head: the length of the nasal tube is in the ratio of 1/2 to the length of the head (measured by the tip of the nose at the inner corner of the eye and the inner angle of the eye to the occipite).
Behavior / Character
The boxer must have firm nerves, be confident of himself, calma and balanced. His temperament is of primary importance and needs careful attention. The attachment and fidelity to the master and the whole house, as well as his vigilance and his fearless courage as a defender, have always been known. It is not dangerous for his family, but it is trump-proof to strangers, joyful and friendly when he plays, but unaware of fear when he gets angry. It is easy to be sidetracked thanks to his docility, self-confidence and courage, his natural temper and his sense of smell. His character is loyal, without falsehood or malice, even in an advanced age.
Head
It is the head that gives the boxer its characteristic appearance. The head must be proportionate to the rest of the body and not appear too light or too heavy. The snout must be as wide and powerful as possible. The beauty of the head depends on the harmonious relationship between the snout and skull. From any angle the head, in front, from above or profile, must always be proportionate to the skull, that is, it must never appear too small. The head must be dry, therefore without having wrinkles. However, it is natural that it is formed wrinkles on the skull when the dog is in attention. The wrinkles that from the root of the truffle develop down on both sides, are always mentioned. The dark mask is limited to the snout and must distinguish clearly from the colour of the head so that the expression does not appear cupa.
Cranial region
SkullThe skull should be as slender and stigolous as possible. It is slightly convex, neither spherical nor short, neither flat nor too wide, the occicipitis not too pronounced. The front groove is only slightly mentioned and, especially between the eyes, should not be too deep.
-28The forehead forms a clear interruption with the nasal back. The nasal back should not be recessed in the forehead as in the bulldog, but should not be descending either.
Facial region
Truffle: The truffle is wide and black, slightly raised; the nostrils are wide. The end of the truffle is placed a little higher than the root of the nose.
Muzzle: The snout is strongly developed in the three dimensions of the space and therefore is neither pointed, nor narrow, nor short and nor flat.
Its shape is affected:
Labbra: The lips complete the shape of the snout. The upper lip is thick and swollen; it fills the empty space that originates from the lower mandibola longer, through which it is supported by the canines of the latter.
Masks/Sealing: The mandibola overcomes the upper jaw and is slightly curved upwards. The boxer bites forward. The upper jaw has a wide attachment to the skull and narrows only a little in front. The dentature is strong and healthy. The incisors are arranged in a straight line as regularly as possible, the canins well spaced from each other and of good size.
Guance: The cheeks are developed in proportion to the powerful jaw, without however standing out too prominently, but rather, they blend with the muzzle giving rise to a slight rounding.
Eyes: Dark eyes must not be too small, protruding or too overly perplexed in orbits. The expression denotes energy and intelligence, without appearing threatening or insidious. The contours of the bilge must be dark in colour.
Orchestology: Their size is adequate for the natural; they are placed laterally at the highest part of the head, leaning on the cheeks in a resting position and fall forward, forming a visible fold, especially when the dog is in attention.
Neck
The upper line develops in an elegant curvature from the well marked attachment of the nape to the Garrese. The neck must be long enough, round, strong, muscular and dry.
Body
Square. The trunk rests on the limbs of the robust and straight.
Garrese: It must be a great deal.
Back: Including the lumbar region, it must be short, solid, straight, strong, wide and strongly muscular.
Crew: Slightly inclined, slightly rounded and wide. The pelvis must be long and, especially in females, wide.
Thorax: Deep and down to the elbows; its depth is half the height at the Garrese. Well developed breast. The ribs well circled but not rounded in the shape of barrels, extend far back.
Lower line and abdomen : Scrolls back with an elegant momentum. Short, tense, slightly retracted.
Tail
The insertion is rather high than low. The normal length tail is left to the natural.
Arts
Front limbs
Overview: The front limbs, seen from the front, must be straight, parallel between them and have a strong boss.
Shoulders: Long and inclined, firmly joined with the trunk; should not be too full of muscles.
Arm: Long and forms a right angle to the scapula.
Elbows: Not too closed or distracted from the costume.
Ava-arm: Vertical, long and with dry muscles.
Carp: Strong, well marked, but not often.
Metacarp: Short, almost perpendicular to the ground.
Front foot: Small, rounded, compact, with well-padded bearings and hard soles.
Rear limbs
Overview: Strongly muscular, the muscles are as hard as wood and stand out in a plastic way. Faced from behind, the back limbs must be straight.
Leg: Long and wide. The corners of the hip and knee joints must be as dull as possible.
Knee: In the normal position, it must advance sufficiently to be angoloswitched to a straight line perpendicular to the ground pulled from the tip of the hip.
Leg: Very muscular.
Garretto: Strong, well marked but not prominent. The angle is about 14°.
Metatarso: Short, with a slight inclination of 95°-100° to the ground.
Rear feet: They are slightly longer than the front ones, compact, well-padded bearings and hard soles.
Step/movement
Alive, full of strength and nobility.
Skin
Sciutta, elastic, free of folds.
Mantle
Hair: Short, hard, shiny and tight.
Color: Fulvo or tiger. The Fulvo is in different shades, from the light Fulvo up to the dark deer red, however the intermediate shades are the most beautiful (i.e. red-halloween). The mask is black. The tiger variety has, in the background, the dark or black stripes in the verse of the ribs. The background colour and the stripes must detach clearly between them. In principle, the white spots are not to be rejected, they can also give a gradeable effect.
Cut
Measured by the Garrese, passing through the elbows, to the ground.
Male: 57-63 cm
Female: 53-59 cm
Weight
Male: over 30kg (when the height at the Garrese is about 60 cm).
Female: about 25 kg (when the height at the Garrese is about 56 cm).
Faults
Any deviation from the above must be considered as a defect, which will be penalized according to its severity and its consequences on the health and well-being of the dog.
