Boxer: a race in crisis. Cronaca of an announced death
Translated from the Italian original.
Italian boxerism is becoming aware of a situation that is very difficult to accept. We all knew that sooner or later we should have stopped amputating tails and ears, but no one would have expected such a hard blow.
In 2001 the breed standard of the boxer changed: since then tail and ears must be intact, instead in the previous version there was a double possibility, accepting also the boxers amputated. Therefore, no matter what allowed the Italian law of the time (and here too there would be to be discussed) in my opinion everyone should have stopped amputating from that instant. It was pretended nothing, but at the end we all knew that the prohibitions were at the door also for Italy; their looming is testified by the recurrent discussions between boxerists that have enlivened these years. In the end the European trend was clear and soon would come our turn.
I, before the times, abandoned the practices of amputations in 2000 (so with a year in advance of the change of the standard). For seven years, that is until 2007, that is when the prohibitions came also from us, I was the only Italian to breed exclusively intact. Meanwhile there has been some sporadic attempt by other breeders who have 289 years tried to respect the standard with some litter but, in front of the. inability to promote something in which you do not believe, have abandoned the idea. There has even been those who surgically intervened on puppies of several months because they could not sell them. Despite them, convinced and determined to pursue my choice, I have collected my success. Of the many appreciations, the great part has arrived to me from strangers to the circle of Italian cynophilia. For a long time I was the only one to bring their boxers on display from.Italy in Germany and other countries.prohibitionists. As a result, in our country the tail has become symbol and up to date of.Casa Bartolini.
My choice has never been appreciated, especially to breeders and judges who have often accused me of drooling the race. and wanting to raise hunting dogs. For years has been carried out a campaign against the integrity of boxers with unfounded news that told of very fragile tails and subject to serious accidents of break. Nothing more false that has however resulted in the effect of creating further distrust towards the new. We reopen the magazines of recent years and count the pictures of intact boxers: except those of my dogs, there are no others. Instead of planning a gradual transition towards the integrity, they were built barricades. We all remember the event of the European Boxer Club organized in Italy by the Boxer Club d.Italy that has finally sanctioned the break of relations with the Germans. L.then president of the Boxer Klub of Monaco, G.Karg, si102 of the initiative at the National Ente della Cinofilia Internacia - ENCI.
In 2007 the boxer world suffered the first shock: the Turkish order against the amputations created a fear. From 2001 until then it seemed easier to close its eyes to reality rather than to take note of the changes. A famous circular of the International Cynological Federation was used as a pretext to continue cutting. Meanwhile, Italian boxerism has accumulated seven years of delay on the German experiences of breeding. The problem has also been about the preparation of Italian judges who, as they have often admitted, have had no opportunity to prepare the eye to judge the boxers intact like the amputees.
The real earthquake came with the publication by the ENCI of the resolution of July 7, 2008 that rightly reminds the judges who must. However proceed to the evaluation and judgment of the subjects with ears and/or tail cut provided that born before the 31 December 2007 and before the last possible modification of the morphological standard if this has introduced the only prediction of tail and/or ears intact. It follows that the careers es/20 of the boxers amputated born after the change of the 2001 standard are destroyed and if now these want to close some championships they must go to the countries of the east where the surgical operations for aesthetic purposes are still allowed. Logically all the titles, CAC, CACIB, the selezioni, etc. achieved by these dogs would be disabled and the graduations should be rewritten.
In the search of the manager has fallen into a total maramma: all with the finger pointed against the other in the usual. download barrel. in pure Italian style. The breeders accuse the judges of race who have always continued to move in ring populated by amputated boxers preferring them to the integrity. To hear the judges it seems that the orders of stables were clear and, to the head of the china, turn 289ly the look towards the recognized specialized association, the Boxer Club of Italy. The latter in turn tries to ask for clarification all. ENCI as if this were to protect and guide the selection of each race. The damage is accomplished and the displays are now empty. The solution that is expected will be in tone with the behaviour held until today? A sanatoria? A.amnistia general?
In 2001 the Germans stopped amputating without having the time to amortize the hard blow of the state's normative introductions: initially the race lost many consents and the births decreased. Instead of taking advantage of this experience, we were not farsighted and now Battamo more than what they suffered. We had all the time necessary to create a canine culture capable of accepting the integrity but we did not exploit it. Now with what credibility can be given to the intact boxers if until yesterday it was said that the tails break and that they distort the race?
Those who have long memory and a minimum of judgment, look well at the many who today fill their mouths with the work of others: to hear them speak seems almost like they were themselves to graft the tail into the canine species! Among them there are even those who in the past gave me of the boundario and the madman, but my results are under the eyes of all. I wanted to give a correct information to the public and I created l.Italian Boxer Club with which we broke the monopoly of the information held by the official sources. I kept contact with Germany and I organized, for the first time in Italy, the ZTP (Try d. Allevamento) in collaboration with the German Boxer Klub. They told me that I would never get the pedigree of white boxers, instead we studied the issue carefully, I had them and now all the breeders do not kill them anymore but advertise them on their own sites. I wanted to raise boxer integrity in respect of the power and the standard and closed numerous titles looking for comparison in Germany. The problems that are facing the other places on the door of tail, I can do them again, I can do them again, and I can do them again, I can do them again, from the heads, well, etc.
For many, the boxer is little more than just a passion, but not for me. I don't care to end the controversy, but I would like people to understand that making choices and not following the mass can be difficult, but the satisfaction that follows is great. On the other hand I am sorry for those who have taken an amputated dog and have no fault of it. The error is to be sought upstream: it has failed to have correct information and, instead of encouraging a gradual change, too many have sided with low head on the conservative side. Now the Italian breeding pays the damages and many today discover that they have boxers that, without their caudal flag, belong to the past.
